Class 10

NIOS Class 10 (Secondary)

NIOS Secondary is the Class 10 course of the national open school board. NIOS says its certificates are equivalent to those of other school boards. It suits students who left school, athletes and artists, students who learn at a different pace, and students moving from a regular school.

Who can apply

Class 10 admission requirements

At least 14 years old on the cut-off date for your admission block. No upper age limit.
Class 8 pass certificate, or a self-certificate if you have no school record.
Valid Aadhaar card or government identity proof.
Failed Class 10 at another board? Up to 2 passed subjects (33%+, in the last five years) can move over through TOC.

Class 12

NIOS Class 12 (Senior Secondary) streams

NIOS Senior Secondary is the Class 12 course. You need a Class 10 pass from a recognised board and must be at least 15. For entrance exams like JEE, NEET or CUET, check that year’s eligibility rules. We help you pick subjects that keep your options open.

Admission routes

Understanding NIOS admission streams

NIOS has different admission streams depending on your history and timeline. We help you pick the right one.

1Fresh candidates

Stream 1 (Blocks 1 & 2)

The regular admission route for 10th and 12th. Block 1 learners first sit the March–April exam; Block 2 learners first sit the September–October exam.

5-year registration validity (9 exam chances)
TMAs carry 20% weightage

Best for: homeschoolers and fresh-year students

2After a failed or missed exam

Stream 2 & TOC

For students who had a setback or compartment in CBSE, ICSE or State board exams this year.

Apply in May–June, sit the September–October exam
Carry forward up to 2 passed subjects (TOC)

Best for: saving the year without a gap

ODEFlexible scheduling

On-Demand Examination

Sit a subject exam on a date you book, when you are ready. ODE is not held in the public exam months.
